The day dawned. I wasn’t sure if this was just another day in my life! Nine years of bonding together! This was the first time ever that we were not together on our Wedding Anniversary! My husband is a workaholic and I had complaints as well. However we had an agreement that our Wedding Anniversary is one such day when we’d not work but just spend time together. This was broken for the first time today.
Reluctant to begin the day, I had no choice. I started early to office. On my way to office, I was listening to a song and cherished our wedding moments. It was not only our day but also the day when God blessed us with the little bundle of joy “Cherry”. She is the naughty cutie of my home, our pet pug. She was turning 2 today. Pondering on the thoughts about her, made me smile as I walked towards office. At times I feel gloomy when my family is not around me. However today I had a strange feeling of refreshment and I didn’t understand why.
I entered my office and started the day with meetings. I felt that I sounded happier than usual. I could feel butterflies in my mind and I tried to understand the reason but didn’t. A couple of meetings done, I started on a session on a topic that I was always interested on. I started it with full excitement and felt confident and positive. I did a couple of sessions and then it was time for me to leave to another office. Having not enough time for lunch, I skipped and continued my work.
I often get tired, gloomy, lonely, depressed at times when I feel that this is a mechanical life. But today, I could sense a totally different mood within myself. There are days when I miss calls from home and I really look forward for messages or calls from my beloved ones. But today was different. In fact, I never looked at my mobile expecting any calls or messages. I was even excited to see that I was invited to handle few sessions in the next days. Finishing all my meetings and bidding goodbye to my friend, I walked back home. I still had the energy and excitement although it was just water filling my hunger the whole day.
It is common that we go for a fine dine on our Anniversary every year. However what was that which made me energetic? What was that which made me fly? After reaching home, I noticed that I had a few missed calls from my home. I called my husband and he was super surprised that I wasn’t throwing any emotions on him. He knew me very well! I was surprised too as I didn’t have any hard feelings on the situation that we were apart!
I started pondering on the thoughts what made me feel happy today. I was taken back to my school/college days where I developed the passion towards “teaching and writing”. I always found happiness in teaching and writing. I got reminded of the open challenge that I took and succeeded – “8 hours of continuous writing of 12 essays, 12 summaries, 12 comprehension, 12 stories” in my tenth class. I got reminded of my first symposium presentation that won me the first prize in inter-college symposium. I got reminded of the “Operating System” and “Database” seminars that I handled in college. I got reminded of the open challenge that I had and taught 4 hours of “Interactive Computer Graphics” continuously in my college. I got reminded of my first sessions at IBM for professionals. I got reminded of going back to my college dais as an alumni and an IBM professional. I got reminded of the day when I called my friend after my first training at IBM as a trainer and said “Hey Divya, this is the most happiest day in my life. I enjoyed every moment and the feedback was just awesome”. I couldn’t resist telling her until I got back home that I called her from the bus on the way back home.
There I understood, it was my passion towards teaching that made me happy. I just loved doing that every single time. Although not a trainer or teacher by profession, I find joy in this lovely task. The quote “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life” flashed my mind. Things may not have changed drastically in my life. I still have to live by the topics that are really not of my choice. However I understood, God blessed me and made me enjoy my day. It’s truly a blessing in disguise that I experienced. With the same happiness, I continued doing something which I love – writing this blog 🙂
No gifts can make you feel happy. No posts can make you feel great. Satisfaction is not materialistic. It’s only the inner happiness that is a real gift and I have truly experienced it. It was an awesome anniversary gift!
