A Century Gratitude

I was anxious and gloomy about something that disturbed me a couple of weeks now. I constantly tried to answer my inner conflicts. Questions were aiming me like arrows left and right. I asked myself if I am the only one. “Manyata tech park” – the conductor announced. The clock struck 9:30 pm. As I got down from the bus, my mind pulled me inside Manyata tech park – physically and mentally.

I walked on the pedestrian walkway, to see the high energies of zooming cars and bikes. Trees seemed to sway at me, flowers seemed to smile at me; Lights threw their brightness around! Each little step around D2 had a story to tell; A place where we walked, smiled, discussed, cried, hugged, fought and bid farewell to dear teams. My memories rewound to more than a decade back. One of my first workplaces where I started my career. As I walked in darkness of the night, my prism of thoughts diffracted into a colorful rainbow in my mind.

How many times have we cried, fought, felt anxious and depressed during earlier times at the same place? After a decade back, all that makes me smile are lovely memories. Isn’t it the same for everyone at every stage of life?

Haven’t we felt anxious and annoyed at every stage in life but later looked back, cherishing happy moments and memories with a smile in our lips and tears in our eyes?

Every moment seems killing at times and we throw back our thoughts to the previous stage missing those. With the past we cherish, with the present we get frustrated and with the future, we are anxious. Staying anxious about the tomorrow, depresses our today. Little do we realise, this present is going to become a past and we’d cherish and miss these memories a decade later. Isn’t it ridiculous, we humans call ourselves “the sixth sense being”?

Living for more than 12000 days in my life, makes me realise if I have thousand reasons to cry, there are million reasons to smile. Lovely family, childhood friends, school innocence, college memories, early wedded life, understanding spouse, first job, new experiences, challenging workplaces, tough managers, passionate leaders, guiding mentors, competitive colleagues, naughty children, kind doctors, supportive maids, helpful drivers, virtual well wishers – there are enough reasons to smile and thank every moment.

When we think of the past, we forget the troubles we crossed and happy times make us smile. Focusing on reasons to smile fades away the darkness instantly. Why don’t we do this to our present lives? Can we not look into each others face and smile? A warm smile, a lovely good morning, an acknowledging thank you, a simple appreciation – doesn’t hurt.

Though life may throw challenges at us, shouldn’t we be thankful to our breath and bread today? While we cry aiming mansions, shouldn’t we be thankful for the shelter for the night? While we get anxious of our promotion, shouldn’t we be thankful for the jobs we have? While we get frustrated of the ego clash at work, shouldn’t we be thankful to the loving friends and families? While we get upset about a wrong prejudice set on us, shouldn’t we be thankful to the human in us that someone acknowledges? While we cry on our relationships, shouldn’t we smile of our inner strengths that keep us moving?

While fear, loneliness, anxiety and depression may be the reasons of tears, shouldn’t we erase them by counting on our blessings? Shouldn’t we show our gratitude towards life atleast for once?

Every day has a night – every night has its light; Sorrows are not permanent; Happiness is not temporary;

A century thoughts cross my mind as I draft my century post. Every past makes me smile reminding the present is the most beautiful to learn!
